With the widest variety of game in the U.S., Idaho has been famous among hunters since the time of the mountain man. Hunts include mule deer, two species of bighorn sheep, trophy elk, mountain lion, antelope, bear, moose, white-tailed deer, black bear, cougar, mountain goat, waterfowl and upland game birds. The seasons are as long as 65 days in the backcountry and overall success rates are high.

Hiring a guide, or "outfitter," can be a great addition to your hunting experience. Not only do they provide a wealth of information and assistance, the Idaho Fish and Game Commission sets aside elk and deer tags for non-resident hunters who book with licensed outfitters.
