The first Winter Carnival in McCall, then known as the Payette Lakes Sports Carnival, was in 1924 as a way to break up the long winter days and included dog sled races, ski racing and jumping, skijoring, snowshoe races and snow shoveling competitions. The original Carnival lasted only three days and brought the largest train ever to enter McCall from Boise carrying 248 people, including Idaho Governor C. Moore.
Today, the McCall Winter Carnival has evolved into a 10 day celebration of all things winter and includes Carnival favorites like Fireworks, the Mardi Gras Parade, the Children’s Torchlight Parade, live music, a Vendor Court, and snow sculptures. The McCall Winter Carnival offers something for everyone. Plan to attend the Lobster Feed, the McCall Starz on Ice show, the Barley Brothers Winter Ale Festival, an Ice Fishing Derby, a live Bull and Bronc Riding event, Wine Dinners featuring local wineries, and a live karaoke event on the Main Stage, multiple Bingo nights, a Comedy Show, the high-octane FlashPoint Snow Bike Race, and many more!
